Ashland University's Coburn Gallery and Art Club have established "Art Saturdays," an educational and creative experience for children 7 to 12 years old.
"Art Saturdays" will be offering classes on the following dates - Sept. 18, Oct. 23 and Nov. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Room 346 located in the Center for the Arts on the Ashland University campus.
Each "Art Saturday" class will relate to the theme "Culture Connections," beginning with "Metal Masterpieces of Mycenae" on Sept. 18. Children will explore metal tooling techniques used by the ancient Mycenaean culture and create their own copper reliefs.
On Oct. 23, the students will examine the textile art of the Navajo and make their own weaving with "Navajo Needlework."
"Art Saturdays" will wrap up on Nov. 13 with "Origins of Origami" in which students will learn about this ancient Japanese tradition and create their own colorful origami.
The cost for "Art Saturdays" classes is $5 per child per class, which includes the cost of materials. Enrollment is limited. For more information or to register your child for classes, call 419.289.5190 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or email coburngallery@ashland.edu.
