Ashland University Department of Music Releases Schedule of Fall Events

From free jazz concerts to a medieval Madrigal Feaste and a TubaChristmas, Ashland University Department of Music’s fall schedule of events offers something for everyone.

Opening with its fall choral concert on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel, the season begins with the Ashland University Women’s Chorus as they share the stage with choral ensembles from Galion and Hillsdale High Schools. Other ensemble performances this fall include the Ashland University Jazz Orchestra with the Wooster Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Eagles’ Nest; student chamber ensembles on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall; Ashland University Jazz, percussion, wind and brass ensembles on Monday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre; and the Ashland Area Community Concert Band on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre.

Special events in the fall schedule include Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 2:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre with the Ashland University Choir, Ashland Area Chorus and Ashland Chamber Orchestra; the final concert for the Ashland University High School Invitational Choral Festival on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 3:45 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel; Festival of Lights featuring a program of Christmas choral music and traditional carols on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel; 35thAnnual Madrigal Feaste in Redwood Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, to Sunday, Dec. 5; and TubaChristmas on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 12 noon in Hugo Young Theatre.

Several faculty and senior recitals are scheduled in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall including faculty members Megan Barth, piano, on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m.; and Jane Berkner, flute, on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Featured senior recitals include John Grimm, trombone, on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m.; Margo George, soprano, on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m.; Alyssa Slotterbeck, soprano, Sunday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m.; and James Slike, trombone, Sunday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m.

Events are free and open to the public with the exception of Handel’s Messiah and the Madrigal Feaste. Tickets for Messiah and Madrigal Feaste are available by calling the Ashland University Central Box Office at 419-289-5125, Monday through Friday, 12 noon to 6 p.m. Madrigal tickets are not available until Monday, Sept. 27.
