The Office of Information Technology made some changes to the network on September 14 to ensure better access to Internet bandwidth in the academic/administrative spaces as well as the student residences. These changes have improved access to the Internet, but they are intended to be temporary in nature until our full bandwidth capacity is brought online later this semester.
Last year Ashland University had commodity Internet bandwidth of up to 70 Mb/s. Our current maximum is 105 Mb/s (50% increase) split over two separate Internet connections. The full Internet connection will be online later this semester and will provide Internet bandwidth up to 180 Mb/s (260% increase over last year).
The additional bandwidth is needed to accommodate the ever increasing number of Internet enabled devices on campus as well as the increase in the use of streaming video services. Moving the Microsoft Office and Windows 7 software to an online download also impacts bandwidth use and Internet access. If Internet access or any IT service is not functioning properly, please contact the Technical Support Center at x5405 (419.289.5405) or email at help@ashland.edu. It is important to note your location, time of problem, details on the problem you are seeing and what application or service you were using.
