Ashland University Business Associate Professor Receives Recognition

Dr. Sivakumar Venkataramany, associate professor of international business at Ashland University, has been recognized for his 10 years of service as a faculty adviser to the Dauch College of Business and Economics’ chapter of Delta Mu Delta.

Venkataramany was presented a plaque for his service by the Dauch College of Business and Economics (www.ashland.edu/colleges/college-business-economics) and the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business Administration.

“Dr. Kumar’s courses are always in high demand due to his knowledge and experience with international finance as well as his devotion to the success of his undergraduate and MBA students,” said Jeffrey Russell, dean of the Dauch College. “His investment of time and energy into Delta Mu Delta has made the organization a highly sought-after recognition for all Dauch College students, and the recognition ceremony every October is a highlight of many students’ academic careers.”

Venkataramany has been a member of the Ashland University faculty for 11 years. He received his MBA, MS and Ph.D. from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla. His teaching specializations involve courses in international business, international finance and emerging markets. His research focuses on foreign direct investment in developing economies, international banking and micro-finance. He received the Ashland University Mentor Award during the 2004-05 academic year.

Ashland University’s Epsilon Beta Chapter of Delta Mu Delta Honor Society was established on Oct. 11, 1986. Ashland undergraduate members are required to have a 3.5 grade point average and be in the top 10 percent of their class, while Ashland graduate members are required to have a 3.8 GPA and be in the top 10 percent of their class. Delta Mu Delta membership provides recognition for a lifetime and is the highest national recognition a business student can earn.

Delta Mu Delta Honor Society (www.dmd-ntl.org/) was established to recognize and reward superior scholastic achievement by the students of business administration. The Society was founded on November 13, 1913, and the first chapter was formally established at New York University on January 16, 1914. It was the result of the action taken by five professors on the faculty of the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance of New York University.
In 1963, Delta Mu Delta became a member of The Association of College Honor Societies. This Association was founded in 1925 through the movement started by Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi and Alpha Omega Alpha, and it has grown through the years to include more than 45 National Honor Societies. Its objective is to consider the problems of mutual interest and to maintain desirable standards and useful functions of honor societies in higher education.

Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students.
