Ashland University’s Student-Run Newspaper Launches New Website

Ashland University’s student-run newspaper, The Collegian, launched its new website at the end of September. The website, which has been in the works since mid-summer, can be found at www.ashlandcollegian.com.

"I'm excited about the website because it lets us provide the same news, sports, entertainment and other stories for our readers but in a new way that's more accessible,” says Managing Editor Melissa Loar. “Some people are more likely to click on a link to a story online than they would be to pick up the actual paper copy."

Matt Tullis, The Collegian adviser and journalism assistant professor at Ashland University, said the new website is the newspaper’s first real effort to reach a digital audience.

“No longer will one have to be confined to the Ashland University main campus in order to enjoy everything The Collegian has to offer,” Tullis said. “Now students at branch campuses can easily see what is going on in Ashland, and alumni can keep up to date with campus happenings without waiting for the quarterly alumni magazine.”

Tullis also says the website will allow The Collegian to publish more regularly, and gives the ability to break news when it happens.

As of this week, the website held a total of 71 stories, 71 images and two photo collections.

"I'm excited about having The Collegian online and believe it will be a tremendous resource for our alumni and friends,” says Jeffrey Alix, director of Alumni and Parent Relations. “What better way to keep them engaged with Ashland than by allowing them to read up on campus events at their convenience."

The Collegian can also be found on Facebook and Twitter by following AUCollegian.
