Ashland University Sets Classes for ‘Art Saturdays’

Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery and Art Club have established another session of “Art Saturdays,” an educational and creative experience for children 7 to 12 years old.

“Art Saturdays” will be offering classes on the following dates – February  12, March 19 and April 9 -- from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Room 346 located in the Center for the Arts on the Ashland University campus.

The cost for “Art Saturdays” classes is $5 per child per class, which includes the cost of materials. A very limited number of scholarships are being offered for the spring sessions of “Art Saturdays” and scholarships will be granted subject to availability. Call 419.289.5652 for information.

Each “Art Saturday” class will have a theme, beginning with “Gone to the Dogs” for the Feb. 12 session. Children attending this session need to have a parent email a pet photo to the coburngallery@ashland.edu by Feb. 8 and students will be using the photo in their project. Students attending this session will learn about artist William Wegman.

On March 19, the children will “travel” to Africa, Asia and Australia exploring the arts from each culture.

“Art Saturdays” will wrap up on April 9 with “Papermaking and Paper Marbling” in which students will learn about green art processes. A free t-shirt will be available for young artists who attend the April session.
