Redefining Investment Strategy Education (R.I.S.E.) XI took place at the University of Dayton, March 31-April 2. This annual conference is world’s largest student investment forum and is an interactive dialogue between the best and brightest in the financial industry and Finance students from around the world.
The competition between student-managed portfolios is ranked based on risk adjusted basis. Ashland University’s finance students placed 4th in two separate categories of the competition. There were approximately 30 teams in each of the two categories from all over the world both large and small universities. In the Eagle Investment Group, Ashland University Finance majors are currently managing over $1 million of the university’s endowment, allocated in three different portfolios and have performed better than their benchmarks each year over the last eleven years.
A total of 11 Finance majors, 3 seniors and 8 juniors, attended this conference. Seniors were there to compete and the juniors were there learn from industry experts in a variety of related business and financial areas. The timing of the conference for the juniors is perfect since they take managing control of the Eagle Investment Group portfolios at end of April and will be responsible for the allocation of that investment until April of 2012. They were able to see and hear firsthand how money managers view the current market and strategies they are currently using.
