Ashland University Finance Majors Compete and Place in Competition
Eleven Ashland University finance majors competed and placed in the annual Redefining Investment Strategy Education (R.I.S.E.) XI Forum at the University of Dayton on March 31-April 2. The students placed fourth in two separate categories as a part of Ashland University’s Eagle Investment Group (EIG).
Ray Arnold of Twinsburg, Ohio; Andrew Krauter of North Canton, Ohio; Kory Boughton of Shreve, Ohio; Evan Mumea of Mansfield, Ohio; David Rose of Mansfield, Ohio; Jennifer Goodrich of Phoenix, Arizona; Brittany Johnson of Northfield, Ohio; Brandon Ritchie of Shiloh, Ohio; Andrew Garn of Mansfield, Ohio; Shane Usner of Orient, Ohio; and Mike Salem of Strongsville, Ohio, were the students who attended the R.I.S.E. Forum.
The competition between student-managed portfolios is ranked based on risk adjusted basis. There were approximately 30 teams in each of the two categories from all over the world, both large and small universities.
In the Eagle Investment Group, Ashland University finance majors are currently managing over $1 million of the university’s endowment, allocated in three different portfolios and have performed better than their benchmarks each year over the last 11 years.
Of the 11 finance majors who attended this conference, there were three seniors and eight juniors. Seniors were there to compete while the juniors were there to learn from industry experts in a variety of related business and financial areas.
The timing of the conference for the juniors is perfect since the juniors will take managing control of the Eagle Investment Group portfolios at end of April and will be responsible for the allocation of that investment until April of 2012. They were able to see and hear firsthand how money managers view the current market and strategies they are currently using.
The annual R.I.S.E. Conference is the world’s largest student investment forum and is an interactive dialogue between the best and brightest in the financial industry and finance students from around the world. Members of Ashland University’s Investment Group have participated in the Forum for the past five years.
