Ashland University Kicker/Punter Comes Home with Medal
Ashland University kicker and punter Gregg Berkshire was an important part of Team USA that captured the gold medal in the International Federation of American Football Senior World Championships. Berkshire, who will be a senior with the Eagles this season, helped Team USA to its 4-0 record in the tournament.
Berkshire spent three weeks playing for Team USA, beginning in late June with practice and ending July 16 with a gold medal following a 50-7 championship-game victory over Canada in front of a crowd of 20,000 in Vienna, Austria. The tournament included pool-play wins over Australia (61-0), Germany (48-7) and Mexico (17-7).
Berkshire was a constant contributor for the Americans, converting 21 of 23 PAT kicks and drilling a 46-yard field goal. That field goal came in the most critical of scenarios, when the U.S. edged Mexico by a 17-7 final to claim first place in Group A.
