Coburn Art Gallery Hosts Art Exhibition

The Coburn Art Gallery is hosting an art exhibition of mixed media sculpture by artist Jason Kaufman of Mansfield and paintings by Laura Weiser of Columbus through Sept. 16. The gallery will have a reception on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Kaufman received a bachelor of arts degree from Kent State University in crafts, with a focus in glass working, in 2007. He is currently living in Mansfield, where he is employed by the Mansfield Art Center. Kaufman has become a key contributor to the growth of Mansfield’s emergent art community by guiding monthly art critiques and by participating in local shows, artists’ collectives and creative writing groups. In addition to his sculptural work, he is writing a novel under the working title “The Unknown Want.”

Weiser is currently a lecturer of art at The Ohio State University. She received her master of fine art from OSU in painting and drawing and her bachelor of fine art from West Virginia University. Working within the language of drawing, she creates 2D works that often also incorporate encaustic, oil and/or acrylic paint. Weiser works with images of architectural interiors and exteriors and creates connections between their history and how they are currently perceived. Inspired by ghost stories, her work imbues these places with apprehensions, nostalgia and imagination.

On Sept. 12 at 3 p.m., Kaufman will be giving an artist demo and talk in the sculpture studio in the Center for the Arts building on the Ashland University campus. This event is free and open to the public and those attending are asked to wear closed toe shoes to this event.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information about the exhibition or the Jason Kaufman studio visit, call 419.289.5652 or visit us on Facebook.
