Symposium Continues with Screening of Film and Panel Discussion

Oct. 25, 2011/ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s 2011-2012 College of Arts and Sciences Symposium "Against Global Indifference: Awakening to Action" will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium with the screening of the film, “The Age of Stupid,” followed by a panel discussion.

The event is free and open to the public.

This ambitious documentary/drama/animation hybrid stars Pete Postlethwaite as an archivist in the devastated world of the future, asking the question: "Why didn't we stop climate change when we still had the chance?" He looks back on footage of real people around the world in the years leading up to 2015 before runaway climate change took place.

Ashland University faculty members will lead a panel discussion about the film following the screening.

Information about the film can be found at:
http://www.spannerfilms.net/films/ageofstupid and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1300563/.

The Ashland University College of Arts and Sciences’ biennial multi-part Symposium Against Global Indifference series this year is titled “Awakening to Action.”

“The College of Arts and Sciences inaugurated the ‘Symposium Against Indifference’ in 2003 as a biennial series of events and lectures,” said Dawn Weber, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “The symposium is dedicated to overcoming apathy in the face of human concerns by raising awareness and promoting compassionate engagement.”

Ashland University, ranked in the top 200 colleges and universities in U.S. News and World Report’s National Universities category for 2012, is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students.
