The Office of Information Technology has automated processes that apply patches and security updates and power desktop and laptop systems down overnight. System patches are applied once a week without affecting system operation; the updated computers are restarted at 2 a.m. and then the computers are powered down with a 10 minute notification provided to the computer use in advance. No computers are powered down/restarted by this process before 2 a.m. (unless they have been put on an alternate schedule such as Patterson 200) and a 10 minute warning is provided in advance of the powered down/restart process. This allows us to keep desktop and laptop systems updated and helps conserve energy by powering systems down at night.
We will announce other significant changes as we continue to refine this process and a detailed schedule is being developed and will be on the IT website. If there are questions about these processes or if problems are encountered please contact the Technical Support Center at 419.289-5405 or enter a ticket at kbox.it.ashland.edu.
