Windows XP (released in 2001; last version upgrade in 2008; support ended in 2009) is being replaced at Ashland University by Windows 7. Many offices and classrooms were upgraded to Windows 7 last summer and all new computers over the past year have had Windows 7 installed. Information Technology is making another push to move all classrooms/labs and employee systems to Windows 7. Faculty and Staff that use special purpose software should check to ensure the software is compatible with Windows 7 before migrating to the new operating system. If special purpose software needs to be upgraded then the department will have to fund any costs associated with upgrading it to a version compatible with Windows 7. Employees that want to move to Windows 7 now please call the TSC (5405 or 419.289.5405) or enter a ticket at http://kbox.it.ashland.edu. A technician will call to schedule an appointment to upgrade the computer to Windows 7. The technician will also check to see if there are hardware issues associated with migrating to Window 7.
Windows 7 has many features to enhance productivity and file management. Microsoft has a short (6 minute) video on called “Getting started with Window 7” located at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/getting-started .
Special Note to Anyone Using Adobe Professional Versions 4-9 – These are not compatible with Window 7 and must be upgraded to version 10.
