10 reasons why laptops aren’t facing extinction (TechRepublic 2012)

We see them everywhere! These thin, light, bright, portable tablet devices seem to be everywhere and the people using them look so happy and productive it is easy to wonder, “I am the only Neanderthal still using a clunky old laptop?” I assure you that you are not and the truth of the matter is that while the tablet I use has replaced much of the paper I previously used for notes and it does make connectivity with the workplace more flexible, it has not replaced my laptop. The tablet is largely a consumption device (best for viewing online materials, taking notes, editing documents, etc.) while the laptop fills this function and is also a production device (creating web pages, writing reports and creating complex spreadsheets). These are my personal observations, but TechRepublic highlights many good reasons why laptops will be here for quite some time.
