Through the summer, Information Technology will be completing an upgrade of the wired network infrastructure for main campus. This upgrade entails replacing all of Cisco switching and routing equipment with state-of-the-art Juniper devices. In addition to providing us with the latest features of the Juniper network, this upgrade will provide specific improvements such as gigabit to the desktop and Power Over Ethernet. The completion of this upgrade will position our campus for future networking needs such as a Voice Over IP phone system to replace the current legacy phone system.
This upgrade will require the re-addressing of all network enabled devices. Fortunately, client computers are dynamically addressed and, at worse, will simply need a re-boot. Building service and other miscellaneous devices will need re-addressed as well. All attempts will be made to thoroughly enumerate every effected device and contact major stakeholders to negotiate changes. Primary upgrade tasks will be performed after instructional and business hours to avoid disruption to operations.
