Ashland University Coburn Gallery and Art Club Set Fall 2012 Art Saturdays

8/13/12 ASHLAND, Ohio -- Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery and Art Club have established “Art Saturdays,” an educational and creative experience for children 7 to 14 years old.

“Art Saturdays” will be offering classes on the following dates – Sept. 15, Oct. 13 and Nov. 10 -- from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Room 346 located in the Center for the Arts on the Ashland University campus. Registration and fee is required prior to each Art Saturdays activity and class sizes are limited.

To celebrate its third year of offering Art Saturdays at Ashland University, the Coburn Gallery will host a free session on Sept. 15. This session will double as a fund raiser for the Ashland County Food Bank and is free with a canned good donation.

The Sept. 15 session is titled “The Self Portrait and Cubism,” and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for students ages 7 to 12. At this session, students will learn about the art movement of Cubism and create a self-portrait in this style.

Again, the cost of this session is free with the donation of canned goods. Enrollment is limited to 18 students and all materials are provided. All canned good donations will benefit the Ashland County Food Bank.

On Oct. 13, a session titled “Watercolor for Young Artists,” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for students ages 9 to 14. At this session, students will explore the possibilities of watercolor employing thin, transparent washes of pigment to create a still life painting.

Enrollment is limited to 15 students and the cost of this session is $10 per student. All materials are provided.

On Nov. 10, a session titled “Animation 101” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for students ages 8 to 13. At this session, students will explore the exciting field of animation and fine art. Students will create a short stop motion animation during the class.

Enrollment is limited to 14 students and the cost is $5 per student. All materials are provided.
