Article of the Week – EDUCAUSE ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology, 2012 (EDUCAUSE/ECAR September, 2012) -

Based on this national study:
• 75% of students surveyed say that technology helps them achieve their academic outcomes
• 85% say a laptop is important for academic success; 37% say a smartphone is important
• 86% own laptops – this represents an 83% increase in laptop ownership from 2004 to 2012
• 74% take at least one class with an online component
• 31% took a class completely online – This represents a 107% increase from 2008
