Technology is sometimes a fickle partner and for every old technology it seems there are several here and on the horizon to take over and raise the bar on what was available in the past. This is the case with VHS players in the newly remodeled classrooms. Starting this fall, when classrooms are remodeled we will not be installing VHS players. IT can assist in moving academic/instructional videos from VHS to DVD and this request is initiated by a ticket to the Technical Support Center. There will be a minimal charge for this and some materials can’t be converted because of copyright requirements and departments will have to purchase instructional materials in DVD format. There are still many classrooms with VHS players but they will not be replaced as they fail and the ability to purchase and integrate the old VHS technology with the new technology in the classroom.
