Ashland University Campus Activities Board Takes Home Four Awards

11/5/12 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) was again recognized for the quality of the student entertainment it offers on campus when it won four awards, including Programming Organization of the Year, at the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Mid-America Regional Conference held Nov. 1-4 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“This is the highest honor an organization can receive through NACA,” said Nicole Dyer, director of student life and CAB adviser, when discussing the Programming Organization of the Year award. “It is great to be able to call ourselves an ‘award winning’ programming board and the members of CAB deserve the recognition for their hard work and dedication to the Ashland University campus.”

Dyer said Ashland University has received this award through NACA a total of 10 times. “We received national recognition in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 and regional recognition in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2011 and now 2012,” she said.

The other awards won at the conference were:
• “Outstanding print media” for the Andy Grammer poster created by Marissa Uhrig;
• “Best Video” for the Banana Splittin’ Competition promotional video created by Chris Hinkle;
• “Low cost program” award for the “Win the Game, Win the Game” event;

CAB AwardStudent representatives attending the conference were Faith Gruber, student activities Intern; Marissa Uhrig, CAB co-leader; Caleb Young, CAB co-leader; and Lillian Zalar, CAB co-chair.

Gruber was instrumental in preparing the award application, which was based on the fall 2011/spring 2012 programming under the leadership of Gruber and Rachel Heckathorn, a May 2012 graduate.

The mission of CAB is to provide quality, diverse entertainment including an assortment of social opportunities which support campus unity, friendship, learning, personal growth, learning and fun. Once of CAB’s main objectives is to create a positive environment; for both its members and the students they serve, in an effort to enhance the overall Ashland University experience. Established in 1977, CAB is celebrating its 35th year of excellence in programming on the Ashland University’s campus.

The NACA conference spans a six-state region and includes 170 participating college programming boards from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois.

Ashland University, ranked in the top 200 colleges and universities in U.S. News and World Report’s National Universities category for 2013, is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students. ###
