Ashland University’s Teacher Network Holds Day of Service

1/22/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Students in the Ashland University Schar College of Education’s new Teacher Network participated in a “Drive for Supplies” as part of the National Day of Service on Jan. 19.

Approximately 25 students from the Ashland University’s Teacher Network, a program that places first semester freshman teacher education students in a living-learning community, collected school and office supplies from on-campus offices and organizations and donated them to Harmony House in Mansfield on Saturday.

Teacher Network students“The purpose of this event is to help disadvantaged students and employment seekers with supplies such as papers, envelopes and pens; to reduce disposal costs associated with waste in our community landfills; and to promote community action,” said Adam Sikula, director of academic advising for the Schar College of Education.

The National Day of Service began four years ago to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.
