Ashland University College of Arts and Sciences to Host Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium

3/12/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s College of Arts and Sciences is hosting an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium that will feature the works of approximately 55 students from 13 departments in the College.

According to Dr. Diane Bonfiglio, assistant professor of psychology, the April 10 symposium, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Myers Convocation Center. The symposium will feature oral presentations, performances, poster presentations and art exhibitions.

Dr. Dawn Weber, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said the symposium will showcase the many and varied talents of the students in the College of Arts and Sciences.

“This event provides students in the College of Arts and Sciences the chance to present the results of independent research, exhibit their artwork, or give literary readings, musical or theatrical performances in a professional setting,” Weber said. “And we are excited that the public as well as all faculty, staff and students will be able to attend these presentations and performances.”

Oral presentations will include Erin Sutter’s “The Theory of Evolution in American Society and Politics After the Civil War”; James Robinson’s “The Role of the Church in a Segregated Society: A Case Study of Shelby, Ohio”; Jacob Ewing’s “Mona Lisa and a Midwest Kid”; Mackenzie Lake’s “The Protestant Church Under a Socialist Regime,” and Tyler Remmel’s “The Early Bird: How Twitter Has Created the Perpetual Media Race.”

Poster or exhibition presentations will include Mallorie Boron’s “Bioavailability of Cadmium in Inexpensive Jewelry”; Rachel E. A. Carson’s “Divorce and Perceptions of Conflict”; and Morgan Phillips’ “Repressive Copers vs. Defensive High Anxious Copers.”
