Ashland University Offers Two New Certificate Programs

4/2/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University is now offering two new certificate programs for veterans and adult students through its Founders School of Continuing Education.

The first is a Fitness Training Certification Program, which is a self-paced, 8-week course providing 65 hours of online instruction taught by 27 of the most well-known and progressive health and fitness educators in the fitness industry.

The course fee is $995 and successful graduates will be awarded a certificate of completion from Ashland University, and they will be prepared to take the Personal Training Academy Global Certification Exam, which is recognized internationally.

“Many individuals, especially transitioning veterans, have an interest and some experience with physical fitness,” said Dr. John Sikula, Ashland University’s director of Adult Studies and Veteran Services. “Combining this experience with our Personal Training Certificate is an excellent way to start a new career in the field of wellness.”

A second new certificate program in Basic Emergency Medical Technicians Training will begin on May 7. This course follows the National Standard Curriculum and it concludes with State of Ohio Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The course is offered via Central Ohio EMS Training in Lucas.

Training costs for this program are $850; and if students desire 15 continuing education units (CEUs) from Ashland University, there is an additional $500 charge. This program is VA approved.

“Emergency Medical Technicians are finding work in Ashland and Richland counties, and Ashland University is proud to now be associated with the only approved State of Ohio EMS certification program in this geographic area,” Sikula said.

Additional information about these programs is available from Dr. Sikula at jsikula@ashland.edu or by calling 419.289.5751.

Ashland University, ranked in the top 200 colleges and universities in U.S. News and World Report’s National Universities category for 2013, is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students.
