Three AU Students Win Awards at Ohio National Association of Teachers of Singing

 4/9/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Three Ashland University students were award winners at the Ohio National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition that was held April 6 at Kent State University.

The competition featured more than 300 performers and their voice teachers and all participating students performed before judges and received comments regarding their singing. Ashland University’s name was called out three times at the awards presentation.

The winning Ashland University students were Johanna Regan, of Killingworth, Conn.; Katie Mounts, of Greenwich, OH.; and Fatima Imani Smith, of Copley, OH.

Johanna ReganRegan is a student of Stephanie Sikora, professor of music at Ashland University. She was awarded second place in the Upper College Musical Theatre category 1. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Elizabeth Regan of Killingworth and is a 2009 graduate of Haddan Killingworth High School. She is majoring in theatre at Ashland University.

Mounts is a student of Denise Howell, adjunct professor of music at Ashland University. She was awarded second place in the Upper College Musical Theatre category 2. Mounts is the daughter of David Mounts and Jennifer Willis. She is a 2010 graduate of Ashland High School and is majoring in theatre at Ashland University.

Imani Smith is a student of Stephanie Sikora, professor of music at Ashland University. She was awarded first place in the Freshman Women College category ll. Imani Smith is the daughter of Omari and Kimberly Imani Smith of Copley. She is a 2012 graduate of Copley High School and is majoring in music education at Ashland University.
