  • Triumph Over Tragedy

    When Cory Skoczen walks onto Martinelli Field inside Jack Miller Stadium for Ashland University Eagles’ first home football game on Saturday, Sept. 4, it will culminate a yearlong personal battle filled with prayers, tears and a lot of hard work.

    His nightmarish ordeal began at a Monday morning practice prior to the start of the last year’s regular season. During a non-contact drill, Cory, a 5-11, 228-pound linebacker, sustained what University head athletic trainer Jeremy Hancock described as a “spinal concussion.”

  • Ashland University Coach Competing for United States

    Thinking that the third time may be a charm, Ashland University’s strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger is training hard and competing at the national level with the goal of making the United States Olympic Team for the third straight time.

    For Kruger, one of the stepping stones to reaching this milestone is competing for the United States on Sept. 4 at the Continental Cup. This international track and field meet will be held in Split, Croatia.

  • Ashland University’s MFA Residency Draws Writers and Students from Across the Nation

    Readings and workshops by renowned memoirist Tobias Wolff and Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Natasha Trethewey highlighted the Ashland University Master in Fine Arts Summer Residency July 24-Aug. 7 that was attended by 53 students from 24 states.

  • Ashland University Opens New Schar College of Nursing

    Classes at Ashland University’s new Dwight Schar College of Nursing in Mansfield started on Sept. 23 and for junior nursing student Michael DeMoss, the move from MedCentral’s College of Nursing to Ashland University’s Dwight Schar College of Nursing has been a seamless one.

    “It has been a good experience so far -- it has been very positive,” Michael says. “Things like tuition and curriculum have not changed a lot, which is good.”

    The Spectrum Arts and Lecture Series at Ashland University opens its 2010 fall semester season with a performance by the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will perform Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre inside the Center for the Arts.
