Ashland University Alumni Association Names Award Recipients
The Ashland University Alumni Association will bestow its annual recognition awards during the 2011 Homecoming Reunion and Awards Brunch on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. in Myers Convocation Center. The program will feature 10 award recipients and is open to all alumni and friends. Ashland University Team Places Second in EEC Competition
Ashland University’s team of Jerry Arko, a senior management and marketing major from Chardon, Ohio; Theresa Bradley, a junior accounting and information systems major from Loudonville, Ohio; Morgan Kanzig, a junior marketing major from Lucas, Ohio; Hallie Mast, a senior history major from Baltic, Ohio; and Lindsey VanSparrentak, a junior hospitality management major from Amherst, Ohio, took home the second place award of $1,500 at this year’s Entrepreneurship Immersion Week (EIW) completed on Aug. 12. The Ashland team presented an innovative beverage safety concept.
Ashland University Professor Co-Authors Groundbreaking Medical Communication Book
Anticipating the increasing need for effective communication in healthcare, Dr. Theodore Avtgis, professor and chair of Communication Studies at Ashland University, has co-authored a new publication in the medical communication field.
Avtgis partnered with E. Phillips Polack, M.D., clinical professor of surgery at West Virginia University, to release “Medical Communication: Defining the Discipline,” which incorporates cutting edge information needed to navigate today’s dynamic culture of medicine and healthcare.
Ashland University Takes On “Rachel's Challenge” To Spread Compassion, Kindness
The Columbine High School tragedy in April of 1999 took many lives. For one of those lives, her message of kindness, compassion and character has since been carried on and will be shared at Ashland University this fall.
Ashland University Freshmen to Help Community Give Back
Approximately 375 incoming Ashland University students participated in the largest food drive in Ashland County on Aug. 22 and collected 106 boxes of food that will be donated to the Ashland County Food Bank.
Ashland University Department to Present 9/11 Documentary
What were you doing on 9/11? This September marks the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and in observance and reflection of this anniversary, the Ashland University Journalism and Digital Media department has put together a documentary. It will be shown on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre and the event is free and open to the public.
Ashland University will be increasing the amount available in merit-based awards by more than 17 percent for incoming freshmen in 2012-2013.
“We as an institution are committing additional money to our financial aid packages in an effort to make college more affordable for more students,” said Scott Van Loo, vice president of enrollment management and marketing. “The new award structure will increase the financial aid merit-based awards at all scholarship levels for incoming freshmen.”
Admissions Offers Open House for High School Juniors and Seniors
The Ashland University Office of Admissions will be offering two days of Open Houses this fall to give high school upperclassmen and their parents a chance to explore and interact with the Ashland University campus.
An all-day event, these Open Houses (set for Sept. 17 and Nov. 5) will provide visiting high school students and parents with student-led campus tours and opportunities to meet faculty and staff from every academic department and campus organization, according to Megan Brown, Ashland’s admission representative for the Southwest Ohio region.
