  • Ashland University Honors Professor with Taylor Teaching Award

    Dr. David Vanata is the recipient of the 2010 Ashland University Taylor Excellence in Teaching Award. Ashland University Provost Dr. Frank Pettigrew presented the award at Ashland’s Academic Honors Convocation on April 18 in Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.

    The award, first presented in 1997, was endowed by Jeromesville residents Edward and the late Louaine Taylor as a way of supporting high quality teaching at Ashland University.

  • Ashland University Students Conduct Research of the Paranormal; Will Hold Public Event to Report Findings

    ASHLAND, Ohio – Metaphysics, a branch of philosophy often referred to as the study of “What Is?,” is becoming more popular for philosophy degree students these days, especially as it relates to the study of the paranormal, according to Dr. Jeffrey Tiel, associate professor of philosophy at Ashland University.

  • Ashland University Department of Music Presents End-of-Semester Performances

    The Department of Music at Ashland University presents two end-of-semester performances in the Center for the Arts. Both performances are free and open to the public.

    “Variable Winds” a joint performance by the Ashland Area Community Concert Band and the University Concert Band, conducted by Leonard Salvo, will be performed on Sunday, April 25, at 4 p.m., in Hugo Young Theatre.

  • Ohio Senate President to Address Ashland University Graduates

    ASHLAND, Ohio –Ashland resident and Ohio Senate President Bill Harris will address this year’s Ashland University graduates. Harris will speak at the 10 a.m. commencement ceremony on May 8, which will include both undergraduate students and those earning graduate degrees.

    Weather permitting, the commencement service will be held on Jones’ Terrace on the front lawn of Founders Hall. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in Kates Gymnasium.

  • Faculty Member in Ashland University’s MFA Program Runner-up for Pulitzer Prize in Poetry

    ASHLAND, Ohio – Angie Estes, a core poetry faculty member in Ashland University’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA) program, has been named runner-up for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for her poetry collection, “Tryst.”

    Dr. Stephen Haven, director of the MFA program, said Estes, who was hired at Ashland University in the spring of 2008 during the first year of the MFA program, teaches year round in the program.

  • Maplerock Jazz Festival to Feature Dirty Dozen Brass Band

    ASHLAND, Ohio ¬ The Ashland University Jazz Orchestra, Dr. Scott Garlock, musical director, presents the Maplerock Jazz Festival on Friday, April 16, in the Center for the Arts.

    The Maplerock Jazz Festival is an educational and entertaining event that features internationally recognized jazz luminaries mixing with local musicians and regional scholastic groups.

    This year’s featured guest artist is the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, a group that has been featured guests on recordings by artists such as David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dr. John and the Black Crowes.

  • Ashland University to Host Accent on Women

    Accent on Women, Ashland University’s third annual women’s day on campus, will be held on May 7 in the Dauch College of Business and Economics.

    Area residents are invited to join Ashland alumnae, spouses of trustees, mothers of current students and other friends of the University for a day of short educational sessions on a variety of topics, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Ashland University Theatre presents: 'Experience/Experiment: The 2010 One-Act Play Festival'

    Ashland University Theatre will present its final production of the season, “Experience/Experiment: The 2010 One-Act Play Festival,” Wednesday to Saturday, April 21-24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Each night of the festival will include four works produced, directed and performed by Ashland University students.

  • Ashland University Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Named Ronald McDonald ‘House Hero’

    Ashland University’s Alpha Delta Pi sorority has been named a “House Hero” by the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland and will have a plaque dedicated in its honor on April 27.

    Valerie Zeno, adviser for the Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) sorority, said the recognition is based on the sorority’s longtime relationship with the Ronald McDonald House.
