  • Ashland University Spectrum Event to Feature ‘Turning Away from Hate’ Program

    Ashland University’s second spring Spectrum event will feature Tom Leyden, a former neo-Nazi white supremacist activist and recruiter who is now teaching tolerance. Leyden will present a program titled “Turning Away from Hate” on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Room of the John C. Myers Convocation Center.

  • Environmental Lecture Set for Feb. 25

    Ashland University’s 2009-2010 Environmental Lecture Series, “Sustainability and Environmental Issues in Ohio,” continues on Feb. 25 when Dr. David FitzSimmons, assistant professor of English at Ashland University and freelance photographer and writer, will present his multimedia presentation of “350: Images of Fragile Earth.” The lecture is at 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

  • Ashland University to Host Philosophy Talk on ‘College Athletics’

    The Ashland University Philosophy Department will host a program about College Athletics on Feb. 18. Dr. Scott Kretchmar, professor and NCAA faculty athletic representative at Penn State University, will present “College Athletics: Its Most Serious Ethical Dilemma” at 4 p.m. in the Founders Hall Seminar Room on the Ashland University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Ashland University Brings Starbucks to Campus

    After several years of students begging and pleading, Ashland University is now offering Starbucks coffee on the campus. When students returned to campus to start spring semester, they were thrilled to find that the Eagles’ Nest was “proudly brewing” Starbucks Coffee.

    “I was excited because I felt that it meant Ashland was making improvements and trying to give the students what they want,” said Ella Waltman, a junior from Millersburg.

  • Chairman of National Endowment for the Humanities to Speak at Ashland University

    Jim Leach, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, will speak at Ashland University on Feb. 22. Leach will address “Civility in a Fractured Society” as part of the spring 2010 Major Issues Lecture Series presented by the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University.

  • Ashland University Theatre presents musical comedy ‘Urinetown’

    Ashland University Theatre tackles corporate greed and so much more in Mark Holloman and Greg Kotis’ musical comedy “Urinetown,” which runs Feb. 19, 20, 26, and 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Hugo Young Theatre in the Center for the Arts.

  • Ashland University Awarded Federal Grant for Cataract Research

    ASHLAND, Ohio – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced earlier this week that it is awarding Ashland University $159,000 to perform additional research to better understand cataracts, one of the leading causes of human blindness. The grant was awarded through the National Eye Institute’s Academic Research Enhancement Awards (AREA) fund.
