What's Happening at Ashland University

  • Paul Young, author of ‘The Shack,’ coming to Ashland Theological Seminary

    Paul Young, author of the bestselling book, “The Shack,” is coming to central Ohio as part of an event sponsored by Ashland Theological Seminary. The community-wide lecture will be held on April 14 at 7 p.m. in Myers Convocation Center on the Ashland University campus.

    Tickets for the event are $20 per person, and are available online at http://seminary.ashland.edu/, at Aroma’s Coffee Coliseum in Ashland and the Bookery in Mansfield. For those in the Akron and Canton areas, tickets also are available at Berean Christian Stores in Copley and Canton.

  • Tuition Free Day Feb. 3

    On Wednesday, Feb. 3, Ashland University will be celebrating “Tuition Free Day.” This day symbolizes when tuition runs out and other revenue producing programs and support from Ashland University alumni, family and friends make up the difference. Like all other colleges and universities, tuition only covers a portion of the total cost. At Ashland, this portion is 61% and Feb. 3 marks the day that we will be 61% of the way through actual class and finals days.

  • Ashland University Students Honor Their Mentors

    Eight Ashland University faculty and staff members were honored during the University’s 24th annual Academic Mentor Awards recognition ceremony on Friday.

    The program recognizes faculty whose academic leadership with regard to students extends beyond the classroom. The mentors, each nominated by an Ashland student, were presented an engraved silver plate at the event held in John C. Myers Convocation Center.

  • Ohio First Lady to Speak as part of Ashland Center for Nonviolence Symposium

    The Ashland Center for Nonviolence’s spring symposium, “Creating a Caring Community in These Hard Times,” will feature a speech by Ohio’s First Lady, Francis Strickland. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Myers Convocation Center.

    Francis Strickland, wife of Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, will speak on “Our Shared Community: Hopes and Choices.”

  • Ashland University Teacher Education Program Provides Students ‘Southern’ Exposure

    “Ashland University teacher education students now have the option of taking their student teaching semester at locations in South Carolina and Florida through a program in which students live with host families.”

    ASHLAND, Ohio – Ohio teacher education students at Ashland University can now experience a little more sunshine and warmer weather through hands-on classroom experiences in such places as South Carolina and Florida.

  • Ashland University Signs Joint Agreement with Beijing Normal University ZhuHai

     

    Ashland University officials signed a joint agreement with the dean of education from Beijing Normal University ZhuHai on Jan. 25 that will allow Chinese students to complete their master of education degree studies at Ashland University.

  • Christian Concert Draws Large Crowd

    The popular Christian band Building 429 performed in concert to a large and loud crowd at Ashland University on Jan. 22 in Hugo Young Theatre. The opening band for the evening was 33 Miles. The event was sponsored by Ashland University’s The Center for Religious Life and The Call.

  • Ashland University Holds Inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation

    Ashland University held its inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation on Jan. 21. The event, which was free and open to the public, was held in Ashland University’s Jack and Deb Miller Chapel, located on the corner of King Road and College Avenue.

    The convocation featured special music rendered by students and staff who are participants in the Martin Luther King Jr. One Church experience. The keynote address was given by The Rev. Dr. Larry L. Macon Sr., who is an alumnus of Ashland Theological Seminary.
