  • Ashland University Students Head for Warmer Climate for Student Teaching Semester

    Approximately 30 Ashland University students gathered in the Schar College of Education building last week prior to leaving campus for their student teaching semester.

    These students are headed for warmer weather and more sunshine in school districts in various parts of South Carolina and Florida as part of Ashland University’s Southern Internship Exchange Program.

  • AU Student Receives Distinguished National Award

     2/7/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Wooster resident Angela Ellis, who is a physical education major at Ashland University, is the recipient of an American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) National Award and will receive the Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship worth $1,250.

  • Center for Nonviolence Sponsors ‘Slow Money’ Events

    2/6/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Keeping dollars spent by consumers in the local community is a challenge and a goal for the economic well-being of communities such as Ashland. Two programs in February will focus on local entrepreneurship development and how it benefits the local economy and the community.

    “Slow Money” is a term that denotes keeping local money working in the local economy. These “slow money” programs should be of interest to anyone who wants to support existing local businesses or is thinking about starting a new business.

  • Coburn Gallery Sends Out Call for Entries for Upcoming Exhibition

    2/5/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will hold a national juried exhibition titled “Coburn Goes Small” that will feature artworks no larger than 20 inches by 20 inches including the frame.

    The exhibit will run from May 17 through June 16, 2013. The juror for the exhibition is photographer Jessica Somers. Somers's work has been exhibited nationally, has been published in various periodicals including the second edition of The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes, by Christopher James.

  • Ashland University to Hold Nursing Open House on President’s Day

    2/4/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University will hold a Nursing Open House for interested students and their parents on President’s Day on Monday, Feb. 18.

    The open house event, which is free and open to the public, will include a tour of the Ashland University main campus and a tour of the Dwight Schar College of Nursing facility in Mansfield.

  • Ashland University Education Program Ranks High

    2/1/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Teachers who graduate from Ashland University are well prepared and Ashland University’s Early Childhood Education students exceed expectations when compared to the average graduate of other Ohio education programs, according to a new report by the Ohio Board of Regents.

    The Ohio Board of Regents recently released its inaugural Educator Preparation Performance Report for 2012 for all Ohio higher education institutions that offer teacher and principal preparation programs.

  • AU Theatre Continues Season of Comedy: Presenting a Comedy Horror Rock Musical

    1/31/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University Department of Theatre's “Season of Comedy from Stage and Screen” continues with “Little Shop of Horrors,” book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken.

    The musical debuted on the big screen in 1960 and became an Off-Broadway sensation in 1982. Ashland University’s production is directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Fabio Polanco with musical direction by senior music education major Eddie Carney of Madison.

  • Schramm Retires from Executive Director Post

    1/31/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Today, Marvin J. Krinsky, chairman of the Ashbrook Board, announced that Dr. Peter W. Schramm will be retiring from the position of executive director of the Ashbrook Center, effective May 31, 2013.

    “Under Peter’s leadership the Ashbrook Center has prospered and grown into its true purpose of educating Americans in constitutional self-government,” said Krinsky. “Through his work at Ashbrook, Peter has taught thousands of students what it means to be an American.”
