  • Coburn Gallery to Host Art Exhibition

     1/29/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will host an art exhibition featuring the artwork of two Ohio artists -- Cameron Sharp of Mansfield and George T. Gregory Jr. of Columbus.

    This exhibition, which opens Feb. 21 and runs through March 8, will feature both two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks of the artist’s series “Lessons Learned” by Gregory and “What We Talk About” created by Sharp.

  • Ashland University Environmental Lecture to Focus on Urban Planning

    1/24/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Environmental Lecture Series continues its series on “The Ecology of Urban Living” with a Jan. 31 lecture by Terry Schwarz, director of Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative.

    This lecture, which is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium, is titled “Urban Obsolescence and the Adaptive Values of Cities.” This lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Ashland Seminary Student Named Ohio’s American Legion Chaplain of the Year

    1/22/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland Theological Seminary student Willie Springer of Brunswick has been named Ohio’s American Legion Chaplain of the Year. Springer, who will graduate from Ashland Theological Seminary’s divinity degree program in June, was recognized for his honor at the Jan. 14 Brunswick City Council meeting.

    The city recognized Springer, who is chaplain of the Brunswick American Legion Post 234, for his selection as the 2012 American Legion Chaplain of the Year for Ohio.

  • Ashland University’s Teacher Network Holds Day of Service

    1/22/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Students in the Ashland University Schar College of Education’s new Teacher Network participated in a “Drive for Supplies” as part of the National Day of Service on Jan. 19.

    Approximately 25 students from the Ashland University’s Teacher Network, a program that places first semester freshman teacher education students in a living-learning community, collected school and office supplies from on-campus offices and organizations and donated them to Harmony House in Mansfield on Saturday.

    Ashland University has scheduled a number of events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month. In addition to the calendar below, a candlelight vigil against violence honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and remembering those who were lost in the Sandy Hook School, Newtown, Connecticut, tragedy will be held in the upper level of the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel on the Ashland University campus Monday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.

    The campus and the community are encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public.

  • AU Music Presents Several Student Recitals and Faculty Recital in January

    1/15/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - The Department of Music at Ashland University presents several student recitals and a faculty recital in January featuring vocalists, a percussionist and organist. All of the recitals are free and open to the public.

    The student recitals are held in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall in the Center for the Arts (formerly known as the Arts & Humanities Building), and the faculty organ recital is slated for the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.
