Tech Fees

Office of Information Technology - Technology Fees

July 25, 2011

The current technology fees at Ashland University are $200 per semester for undergraduate students and $15 per credit hour for graduate and part time students. The Office of Information Technology, working within the strategic planning framework and assisted by Cabinet and other groups determine the priority projects that are funded by these fees. Technology fees are an important source of funding at the University and account for approximately a third of the funds allocated for technology costs of the institution.

Although technology fees are interspersed with other technology funding sources, they make the following possible:

  • Internet bandwidth and wireless at the main campus and at the regional centers
  • Angel Learning Management system and WebAdvisor/Colleague system maintenance
  • Microsoft Office Professional suite and Windows 7 software downloads
  • E2Campus emergency notification system
  • Student laptop and PC support (drop-off and pick-up)
  • Staffing (student and full time) to support the Technical Support Center, wireless and RESNET
  • The computers and laptops in the instructional classrooms, Patterson 200, the Student Center and various other locations at all campus locations
  • Maintenance of technology enhanced classrooms and technology infrastructure
  • Technology supplies for classrooms and Patterson 200 (projector lamps, paper, toner, etc.)

Other projects that will require partial funding from technology fees include:

  • Procurement and implementation of a campus web portal
  • Campus-wide wireless (main campus and regional centers)
  • Increased bandwidth for main campus and regional centers
  • Increased costs associated with online course offerings
  • Staffing to address online learning, security and desktop applications support
