Many young college students spend spring break enjoying their time away from school. But at Ashland, students have become interested in volunteering and giving back. Habitat for Humanity has become popular amongst Ashland students as their opportunity to make a difference for those less fortunate. This past year students built two houses in Columbus, GA, and helped change a community forever.

This year’s MFA Summer Residency welcomed renowned memoirist Tobias Wolff and Pulitzer-Prize winner Natasha Trethewey. As the highly accomplished writers made their way to campus, so did students from twenty-four states – a testament to the success of the MFA program. Talented attendees included nine graduating MFA students who successfully defended their creative theses.

Ashland University strength and conditioning coach A.G. Kruger is no stranger to success. Since 2003, Kruger has claimed ten USA national championships and has competed for the United States in two Olympic games. Just as he is no stranger to success, A.G. is no stranger to ambition; ambition that’s fueled by the desire to compete in the 2012 Olympic games in London.

It was once said "the difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination." For Cory Skoczen, determination will take on a whole new meaning this Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Eagles' home opener. As Cory runs onto the field, he will be a member of the Eagle football team again for the first time since being paralyzed a year ago.

Today's commencement ceremony will be held outside on Jones’ Terrace in front of Founders Hall. The Ashland area is experiencing windy conditions and cooler temperatures, so please dress accordingly. Faculty who are participating in the ceremony and graduating students will assemble on the brick patio next to Kilhefner Hall at 9 a.m. The lineup, procession and seating will be the same as in past years.

Ashland University is currently conducting a test of the e2Campus Emergency Notification System and other notification systems used at Ashland. If this were an actual emergency, this display would provide details of the emergency and directions on how students and faculty/staff should proceed.

Ashland Theological Seminary's Detroit Center is closed today due to weather conditions. Classes at the Detroit Center have been canceled for today.
