We are pleased to have broken ground for this state-of-the-art facility. The Dwight Schar College of Nursing will have a positive economic impact on the Mansfield community, and will also play a huge role in preparing excellent nurses to meet the nursing demand in Ohio and across the country.
The University is in the midst of a $15.5 million campaign – “Compassion, Community, Commitment ... Building a Healthy Tomorrow” – to build a 50,000-square-foot academic building for the new Dwight Schar College of Nursing on the school's Balgreen Campus at Trimble Road and Marion Avenue in Mansfield. Groundbreaking for the Dwight Schar College of Nursing took place on June 16, 2011 and construction is ongoing.
Based on our internal data, 322 students are enrolled in the College of Nursing for the fall semester. With a total of 123 students enrolled from Richland County, this county has the largest percentage enrolled (38%). By taking advantage of the opportunity to obtain higher education at Ashland University, individuals living in the depressed economic area of Richland, Ashland, Crawford, Knox and Morrow, will be better able to provide for themselves and have the tools to be productive members of their communities. In addition, the nursing program will produce nursing practitioners, educators and administrators within Richland and the surrounding communities.
Why should I donate to the Dwight Schar College of Nursing?
Acquiring the College of Nursing is just the first step in many exciting opportunities being considered by Ashland University. The construction of a new academic facility opens the doors to many health care initiatives. One of those initiatives is expanding the current simulated learning environment for our students. Clinical simulations replicate real life experiences to enhance learning in the classroom, lab or clinical setting, and thus are a crucial element of the learning environment. Irreplaceable, these simulations prepare students for a real clinical setting where they provide care to our families, friends and to our community.
How can my donation impact others and make a difference?
Developing a new academic facility will help prepare excellent nurses who are competent and qualified to provide health care in today's market, and decrease barriers our students my face to receive a quality education. The new facility will have a positive economic impact on our community by enhancing our college campus in Richland County; and will improve the quality of life for members of our community by fostering the growth of students who will become responsible, contributing citizens. Educating nurses close to home will help us maintain a strong local health care delivery system.
Add to Dwight Schar's $5 Million lead gift and help Ashland University educate more nurses.
The Economic Impact
An annual economic impact study was computed utilizing software from the Federal Reserve titled FedFit. The results of that study indicate that the College of Nursing has a more than $12,000,000 annual positive economic impact on North Central Ohio. The future is bright with possibilities as the Schar College of Nursing takes hold in its new facilities.
