Software Download

Please note there are five major processes to this installation. Failure to follow all the steps may prevent MS Office from installing correctly. Please read and follow the instructions carefully.

A. Registration

1. 1. Go to http://ashland.onthehub.com.
2. 2. Students, be sure that the “Students” tab is gray, and Faculty and Staff be sure that the “Faculty/Staff” tab is gray. Select the version you wish to install (Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010).
3. 3. Click the “Add to Cart” button.
4. 4. Enter your network username and password, and then click the “Log in” button.
5. 5. If you get an “Access Denied” message, you cannot get a copy of Microsoft Office at this time. Contact the Tech Support Center for more information at 419.289.5405.

   NOTE: If you receive any error message other than “Access Denied”, please contact the eCampus support center by phone at 1.888.396.1447 or by email by clicking “Help” at the top of the web page, “Contact Us” at the bottom of the “Help” page, and the “Customer Support” in the center of the “Contact Us” page. Fill out the online form to begin the email process.

6. 6. If you can log in, click “Check Out”.
7. 7. Follow the steps on the web site to complete your order.
8. 8. Write down the Product Key Code listed in RED on the receipt page. You can also find your Product Key Code by clicking “My Account” at the top of the download page. You will also receive an email with a link to your Product Key Code and your download options.
9. 9. Keep this web browser window open.

B. Removing Old/Trial/Start-up versions of Office

Before downloading and running the installer, you must uninstall all other Microsoft Office programs or the new install will not work. There are often multiple versions and extra programs installed that accompany Office. ALL of these must be removed before you do the install.

1. 1. Click Start > Control Panel
2. 2. Look for “Add or Remove Programs”, “Programs and Features”, “Uninstall a Program”, or a similar phrasing and click it and wait for the list to fill in.
3. 3. Look carefully through the list for each Microsoft Office program. These may be labeled “Start-up”, “Activation Assistant”, or “Compatibility pack” in addition to the standard “Microsoft Office”.
4. 4. Select the program and click “Uninstall” at the top of the list or “Remove” to the right side of the program.
5. 5. Say yes to any boxes asking if you are sure you want to remove this program.
6. 6. Follow steps 3-5 for all Office programs. You may be asked to restart your computer to complete
7. 7. Restart computer.
8. 8. Once you have uninstalled all old Office programs, you are ready to install the new version of Microsoft Office.

C. Download & Install the Secure Download Manager (SDM)

1. 1. Click “Start Download”.
2. 2. You will then be directed to download the “Secure Download Manager” (SDM) before you can download your Office program. When it gives you the option of where to save the file, save it to your desktop.
3. 3. After the SDM has been downloaded, you should have two new icons on your desktop. One will be “Shortcut to SDM” and the other should be a folder titled “e-Academy Inc”.
4. 4. Click on the folder, and choose “SecureDownloadManager”.
5. 5. Click on the icon that looks like a blue ball with a yellow lightning bolt on it titled “SecureDownloadManager”.
6. 6. The SDM will then install. You may receive a message saying “this webpage wants to run a program, do you want to allow this?” Just allow the SDM to run.
7. 7. A new window (the SDM) should open up and there should be the program you chose to download with 32-bit & 64- bit versions listed.
8. 8. If the SDM does not run:
   1. a. Go back to the SDM download page, and click the link to the right of the sentence that says, “If the SDM does not start within 30 seconds, Click Here.”
   2. b. Run the program and the SDM should start.

D. Determine whether you need the 32-bit or 64-bit version

1. 1. Click the start menu.
2. 2. Right click “Computer”.
3. 3. Select “Properties”.
4. 4. Look carefully through this list for a system type. For System Type: Vista and Windows 7 will show either 32-bit or 64-bit. XP will only list 64-bit, so if your XP does not say 64-bit version, you are running 32-bit.
5. 5. Write down your “bit” type, and continue.

E. Install Microsoft Office

1. 1. Click the “Start” button next to the correct “bit” version you need.
2. 2. Once the file finishes downloading, the Pause button will change to a Launch button. Click the Launch button and the install will start.
3. 3. Follow the steps in the installer, entering your Red code from Part A, Step 8 when prompted.
4. 4. If the Launch button doesn’t start the installer, check your Downloads folder for the installation program. To get to your “Downloads” folder:
   1. a. Click Start> My Documents
   2. b. Click on the “Downloads” folder
   3. c. Find and run the installer.
5. 5. Once the installation is complete, you will need to open an Office program (Word, Excel, etc). The program will ask if you want to register online or by phone. If you have an internet connection, you can register online.
