If you’re interested in giving students of all ages the gift of a second language – a skill that will last them a lifetime – then our French education program may be right for you.
Students get into the classroom for hands-on experience observation as early as their freshman year.
You will undertake a curriculum that is about 50 percent French language learning and 40 percent Education classes. You will begin gaining experience in the classroom as early as your freshman year. Each year your classroom time will increase, culminating your senior year in a student teaching experience. When you graduate, you will be fully prepared to confidently and competently teach French to students of all ages.

Reach Your Career Goals
- As a graduate of this major, you will be ready to pass licensure tests to teach French to children ages pre-kindergarten through high school.
- This year, our College of Education achieved a 96 percent pass rate on the state-mandated Praxis 2 exams and a 100 percent pass rate on state-mandated Praxis 3 exams. When you graduate from the program, you will be prepared to teach.
Career prospects grow stronger when you also earn:
- Master of Education — Available during fall and spring evening classes and both day and evening classes throughout the summer at centers in Ashland, Columbus, Elyria, Massillon and Cleveland Center.
- Master of Educational Administration — Provides you with certification in an educational administration of your choice.
- Doctor of Education — a terminal degree in the field of education.

Gain Real World Experience

Beginning your freshman year, you will spend time in the classroom, gaining confidence and observing best teaching practices. Your classroom exposure increases each year. Ultimately, you will spend a total of at least 200 clock hours in the classroom prior to your student teaching experience.
Your student teaching experience will take place during your senior year and will include a minimum of 300 clock hours. By the time you graduate, you will be fully ready to take charge of a class of your own.
