You are studying within two very strong departments (50 percent in biology, 50 percent in education), each renowned for providing an outstanding education to students.
You will study in our state-of-the-art facilities that recently underwent a $12 million renovation to create three laboratories dedicated to faculty/student research.
Every class and lab is taught by a professor, not by a graduate student or teaching assistant.
You get lots of individual attention from professors because classes and labs are purposely kept small. Upper level courses often cap classes to give you maximum opportunity to know your professors and benefit from their mentoring.
Your professors from the biology and education departments evaluate your classroom internship experience in order to provide you with the most useful feedback and coaching.

Reach Your Career Goals, Increase Your Credentials
As a graduate of this program, you will be ready to pass licensure tests to teach the life sciences in a grade 7 through grade 12 classroom. This year, our College of Education boasted a 96 percent pass rate on the state-mandated Praxis 2 exams and a 100 percent pass rate on state-mandated Praxis 3 exams. Increase your professional credentials by also pursuing: Master of Education — Available during fall and spring evening classes and both day and evening classes throughout the summer at centers in Ashland, Columbus, Elyria, Massillon and Cleveland Center. Professors with a Passion for Teaching and Science

Both your education professors and biology professors are first and foremost excellent classroom instructors.
Every professor in the biology department holds a Ph.D. and is engaged in scientific research with students.

Gain Real World Experience
As part of your program, you will complete 300 clock hours of field and clinical experience prior to student teaching and a minimum of 300 clock hours of student teaching in biology to prepare you for your career as a classroom teacher.

Genetics — Explore modern genetics, including Mendelian principles, molecular genetics, cytogenetics, population genetics and quantitative genetics.
General Zoology — Study of the anatomy, physiology, ecology, behavior and taxonomy of the major animal phyla.
Classroom Management Field Experience Grades 7-12: Education for Diversity —Develop techniques for teaching students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
