Career Outlook for Music Majors

About a third of musicians are employed by religious organizations and another 11 percent find employment with performing arts companies including orchestras, chamber singing groups and musical theatre companies. Employment opportunities for musicians are expected to grow by about 11 percent between 2006 and 2016, which is about the average across all occupations. Competition is strong in this field and smaller, community-based performing groups may provide the best opportunity for new talent. Learn More.
