At Ashland University, academic advising is viewed as a student centered process and is an integral part of the college experience. Ashland University's goal is to have its undergraduate students work with the Academic Advising Office and a faculty advisor in order to guide their academic progress toward graduation and a rewarding post-graduate future.

Purpose

The Academic Advising Office assists undergraduate students who are trying to decide a major of study. After a student has selected a major, the Academic Advising Office assists in searching for a faculty advisor within that major of study. In addition, Academic Advising outlines the requirements for a students' chosen major and guides them through the scheduling process. Service to incoming freshman is one of the primary responsibilities of the Academic Advising Office. The creation of incoming freshman's advising folders, which include their schedule for the fall semester, is coordinated through this office as well.

Philosophy

Advising of first year students is usually done by advisors who teach the Introduction to University Life course, which is a required course for all new freshmen. By the end of their first year of study, students are matched with a faculty member within their program of study. Although the final responsibility for the program of study always rests with the student, the faculty advisor's aim is to develop self-sufficiency and knowledge as the students work toward undergraduate and post-graduate goals.

Hours :	Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (Fall and Spring Semesters) Summer Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm (Mid-May till one week before classes start in August). The office hours for the Assistants vary each semester depending on their current class schedule.
