How did you find out about the internship?

I found out about this internship through a previous co-worker of mine. I then got a contact name of who I could forward my cover letter and resume to at the headquarters in the human resources department.

How long did it take you to secure the internship position?

I applied for my internship over Thanksgiving break and had my interview over winter break. It took two weeks after my interview until I received the great news that I was chosen. This was on January 17, 2007.

Did the Career Development Center help you in acquiring the internship?  If so, please explain how.

Paul Alvarez helped me work on my resume and we discussed the different places I wanted to apply.

Describe your responsibilities within your internship.

I rotated in the merchandising departments and spent time in buying, sourcing and production, planning and allocation, and visual merchandising. I had a different supervisor and agenda for each department.

List three to five highlights from your internship.

What is one aspect of your internship that you would have wanted to change?

I would have changed the order of departments that we rotated in so the order flowed correctly to the New York & Company business cycle.

Did your internship confirm your anticipated career choice or path?

Yes, this was an amazing experience for me and it really confirmed my interest in the merchandising world. After this experience I know I want to get in buying or visual for accessories.

Now that you have completed an internship, what advice would you give students about internships?

Internships are the most beneficial experience for those students who are unsure of exactly what they want to do. It gives you the chance to experience what you may want to focus on when you graduate and if that career path is right for you.
