How did you find out about the internship?

I found out about this internship from my professor.

How long did it take you to secure the internship position?

It took about three months to secure the position from the time I got the e-mail saying that they were interested until I got the e-mail saying I got the position.

Did the Career Development Center help you in acquiring the internship?

Yes, the CDC helped me with articulating my resume into a professional, but yet coordinated with my personality.  In addition, I always take mock interviews before I go on my main interview.  I believe I did two mock interviews before I went to Chicago just to make sure I would be flawless and well prepared.

Describe your responsibilities within your internship.

Intersport kept me very busy with many professional responsibilities as opposed to the typcial internship duties such as working on-site for Cadillac/Calloway Brand Ambassador events at various golf courses, I assisted the project manager in coordinating the whole Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge that was held in both Canton and Cincinnati, Ohio.  I was able to travel to Boston, MA for the PGA senior golf tournament and Detroit, Michigan for the GM event of River days.  In addition, I will be going to Tallahassee in October to promote Geico's top ten greatest wide receivers at the Florida State vs. NC State game.  Lastly, I sat in on conference calls, brainstormed for new ideas in the market, and learned how an event is created from the very beginning to the end.  Also I had the chnace to log video footage and help with CelebTV.com, which just started in February 2007 which communicates celebrity gossip and news over the internet.

List three to five highlights from your internship.

I liked the people who I worked with the best.  Everyone treated me as if I were a full-time employee and not just an intern.  Everyone was so nice and took the time to answer my questions I had about the marketplace and event marketing tactics.  The second thing would be that I got to meet Kirk Herbstreit and Duke's Head basketball coach, Coach K.  The third highlight would be that I got to go on a very special task and get exclusive paparazzi footage of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt when Angelina was in Chicago shooting her new movie in Chinatown, Chicago.  And lastly, I like the fact that I got to travel a lot this summer; while I'm young, right?!

What is one aspect of your internship that you would have wanted to change?

Nothing!  Except that it wasn't long enough.  I enjoyed it so much!

Did your internship confirm your anticipated career choice or path?

It definitely confirmed my career chocie, but I also am interested in other careers such as working in Campus Recreation.  But if I am not doing that, then working for a sport marketing company is exactly what I want to do!

Now that you have completed an internship, what advice would you give students about internships?

Work hard as an undergraduate.  Create and maintain good relationships with your professors, because they are there to help you if you take initiative to do so yourself.  I like to say that "opportunity only happens if you choose to make it happen."
