Parent & Family Information
Dear Parent:
On behalf of the Student Affairs staff, we welcome you and your student to Ashland University. This is an exciting time in the history of the university for your son or daughter to be enrolled as an undergraduate student. Over 1,600 students live and learn together in the residence halls, sorority suites, fraternity houses, servant leadership house and senior apartments. In addition, over 350 undergraduate students commute to campus and find a home away from home in the Hawkins Conard Student Center that is open 24 hours a day.
We request that you encourage your son or daugher to become involved in the many learning opportunities outside of the classroom including:
Academic Research, Campus Employment Student Organizations
Honoraries and Clubs Student Activities Internships
Religious Life Art, Theatre and Music Greek Life
Community Service Athletics Student Governance
Multicultural Programs Wellness Education Leadership
Study Abroad Intramural/Sports Clubs Development
These diverse opportunities broaden their horizons, engage their imaginations and assist them to develop skills that are transferable to their future careers. In addition, the new Recreation and Sports Sciences Center will be open in the near future and will provide additional learning opportunities.
As an involved parent, we encourage you to also empower your student to become independent, make informed choices and be assertive when dealing with challenges, whether it be with a roommate, a friend, an administrator or a faculty member. It is important that your son or daughter learn to resolve issues for themselves.
We hope that you will also enjoy these college days. We encourage you to become involved in the Parents' Association. Also, the Parent Pocket Planner provides information on university web sites, major family events and calendar, and local hotels.
Ashland University is a distinctive institution of higher learning. We look forward to partnering with your student for his/her success.
Sincerely,
Sue Caudill Heimann
Vice President for Student
Affairs/Dean of Students
