Throughout the year, Ashland University Student Dining Services offers the campus community a change of pace by providing theme specials. These specials vary throughout the year and include Picnics, Karaoke,Chocolate Lovers, Halloween, and Beach Party. Just to name a few. With these specials, Student Dining provides a specialty menu along with games and contests, offering prizes to students . Contributions are provided throughout the year from local businesses along with the purveyors who service the Dining Hall facility to help make the event a huge success. Here are just a few of the scheduled events. Watch for new ones in the days to come.
ALL CAMPUS PICNIC AUGUST 26, 2007
The opening picnic was held from 4:30-7:00 pm on the front lawn of Founders Hall. This annual campus event is instrumental in welcoming returning staff and students as well as new students on campus.
KARAOKE SPECIAL SEPTEMBER 26, 2007
This special included a night with an Asian flair and an evening of fun and entertainment. Students competed in singing Karaoke with music provided by House of Entertainment, that initiated a night of competition among the participants during the dinner hours.
BANANA SPLITTEN PICNIC OCTOBER 10, 2007
This annual co-sponsored event held by Student Dining and Student Activities was held on the front lawn of Founders. Students participated in making a 320-foot long Banana Split along College Avenue. The students as well as the Ashland community was invited to join in on the fun and picnic, along with the traditional announcement of the Homecoming Court.

The annual Halloween Special always wins students over as staff joins in to help celebrate in a variety of costumes. This year the Dining Hall was transformed into the Great Hall at Hogwarts while AU's Muggles displayed traditional treats. Halloween candy was passed out throughout the dinner period to make the evening complete.
HARVEST NIGHT THANKSGIVING SPECIAL NOVEMBER 15, 2007
This evening meal was comprised of traditional Thanksgiving favorites, along with an elaborate selection of holiday pies, created by the employees giving that extra special homemade touch. Some of the pies created were Deep Dish Apple, Grasshopper, Peanut Butter, Peppermint, Kentucky Derby, Pecan, Chocolate Chiffon, Apple Caramel, Banana Cream and Pumpkin. To add a special twist to the evening the President of the University along his wife took part in personally serving the pies to the students.
CHRISTMAS DINNER DECEMBER 11, 2007
Students and staff joined us in the Dining Hall for a Christmas feast with an magnificent dessert presentation of homemade Christmas favorites. The wide selection of holiday favorites was transposed into booklet of recipes shared with the University community.

FIESTA FOOD SHOW JANUARY 23, 2008
The Dining Hall closed at 2:30, making last minute preparations in Upper Convo for the annual Food Show. Sombreros, Serapes and Maracas were used to make a colorful presentation while pinatas hung over the dance floor providing great entertainment as the Mariachi Band took a break. This years Mexican Fiesta theme included a selection of Mexican entrees and new menu items presented from 4:15-7:00. The chefs along with the University purveyors give Students an opportunity to taste and choose new menu items and vote on favorites. By voting, students were automatically entered in drawings for prizes throughout the evening.
CHOCOLATE LOVERS FEBRUARY

This annual event celebrated Valentine's Day in "sweet"
style, as red, pink and chocolate created a heart felt presentation
throughout the Dining Hall. A drawing made the evening interesting
as recipients, entered in a drawing for several five pound Hershey Bars.
DR. SEUSS SPECIAL FEBRUARY 27, 2008
This special ran in conjunction with a Dr. Seuss Book promotion on campus. A multitude of of promotional items were offered while reflecting menu options from Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook.
PIRATE OF THE CARIBBEAN BEACH PARTY MARCH 6, 2008
An event with Jack Sparrow, mixing menu and Beach Party to kick-off Spring Break. Students were in no hurry to leave as a drawing for prizes made the evening interesting providing participants with parting gifts.
EASTER SPECIAL MARCH 19, 2008
The Easter Bunny made an appearance from 4:15-7:00 in the Dining Hall making sure everyone got an Easter Treat. Students tested their luck by reaching into a drum filled with hundreds of colorful plastic eggs, all hoping to pick one of the many lucky eggs, to take home one of ten Gourmet Easter Baskets.
PIE SPECIAL APRIL 2, 2008
A smorgasbord of pies, pies, and more pies during the lunch hour. A multitude of specialty pies were created for this noon special giving students a chance to try a different slice of the pie.
PURPLE & GOLD SPECIAL APRIL 16, 2008
Student Dining presented another night of competition, as students were able to throw for great prizes, and peanuts and cracker jacks were passed out to all who came through the door giving off a game day personae.

Another annual outdoor event cosponsored with Student Activities combining great food and fun for one of the last specials of the school year.
