Things you should do before your tour
Congratulations on your decision to study abroad! We know that your experience abroad will be enjoyable and rewarding. Below you will find the required forms that need to be turned into Global Education before you leave the U.S. We have also listed some important information pulled from the Pre-Departure Orientation Handbook. Please note that you should still read the entire handbook as well as check with Rebecca Parillo, 419-289-5870, to ensure that you have completed all the necessary steps/forms that are required for your study abroad experience.
For All Students
- Applying for or Renewing Your Passport
It is critical that you apply for a passport now if you do not already have one that will be valid for six months beyond your return date. Processing time for a passport is 6-8 weeks.
- Payments
Check with Global Education about how and when to pay your program fees. The financial aid process can also be explained.
- Health Information Form
The purpose of this form is to provide important health information to the Global Education Office in order to assist you should the need arise during your program. The information provided will remain confidential and will be shared with program staff, faculty, or appropriate professionals only if pertinent to your own well-being.
- FERPA
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Director of Global Education cannot openly communicate with family members without the permission of the student. This form is needed in order for the Director of Global Education to communicate with the people you list.
For Faculty Led Tours
- Pre-Departure Orientation Meetings
All program participants must attend all scheduled pre-departure orientation meetings. Important information or updates are released at these meetings so your attendance is essential. We will contact you when meetings for your program are scheduled.
- Insurance
Students and community members participating in Ashland University faculty led tours will automatically be enrolled in the HTH Health Insurance plan.
For Semester/Summer Students
- Transfer Credit
Before departing it is your responsibility to be advised and receive approval for the use of credits earned abroad toward your Ashland University degree. Visit the Registrar’s website to download the transient student form.
- Campus Approval Form/Study Abroad Budget
You will need to obtain signatures from your advisor, the registrar, financial aid, the business office, and residence life as well as complete the study abroad budget.
- Visa (if required)
A visa is official permission granted by your host countries’ Consulate or Embassy that allows you to enter and remain in the country for the length of your program. If a visa is required for your host country, it is important to apply 2-3 months before departure.
