Meet your Global Compentency requirement through a Study Abroad program!
Opportunities for the Study Abroad Track
Opportunities for the Study Abroad Track include semester programs, academic year programs, and student teaching abroad in Brazil. For students interested in studying abroad for a semester or academic year, Ashland University has exchange agreements with universities globally. Exchange Programs are currently offered in Brazil, France, Netherlands, Spain, and Taiwan. In addition, Ashland has maintained membership in the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) and the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC). Eligible Ashland University students of any major can choose to study in over 134 programs in 37 countries. Most program classes are taught in English; however, language study is also available.
Opportunities for the Course with Study Away (Part of the Global Studies Track)
Opportunities for the Course with Study Away include Faculty-Led Tours, the COBE in Taiwan program, CCIS and USAC Summer Programs, and Student Teaching Abroad programs.
Faulty-Led Tours: Faculty from various departments across Ashland University sponsor short-term international and domestic experiences for students during spring break and during the summer. Length of the program varies. Past programs have traveled to Austria, Belgium, China, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Massachusetts, Mississippi, South Africa, and Spain. The College of Education has a partnership in Taiwan for student teaching placements. In addition, Ashland University is a member of the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST), an organization that places student teachers in 14 countries. The Taiwan and COST Programs (6 weeks) qualify for the GPS Course with Study Away track.
Additionally, students can fulfill the entire Global Studies Track by studying at the Paris Fashion Institute and earning 6 credits.
Opportunities for the Modern Language Track
The Department of Foreign Languages coordinates a study abroad program for intensive language study specifically designed to provide students with an immersion experience in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. Students can spend four, six or eight weeks in Costa Rica.
Students also have the opportunity to complete intensive language programs abroad through the CCIS consortium, the USAC consortium, and through Providence University in Taiwan.
