Ashland University Honors Top Recycling Challenge Participants
Oct. 8, 2008
ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University honored the top recycling challenge participants from the 2007-2008 academic year during awards ceremonies this week. The award recipients received plaques for display in their buildings.
Recycling challenges occur on a bi-weekly basis and are friendly competitions between buildings on campus. Participants are notified at least one week in advance and the winner is announced the following week. The building that recycles the most pounds per person, wins. The recycling challenges are a way to increase campus recycling while improving Ashland University's ecological footprint and urging the campus community to become more "green."
Kates Family and Consumer Sciences Center was the top academic building, recycling the most recyclables in pounds per person in its challenge week in comparison with all other academic buildings during their challenge weeks. The Student Apartment complex was the top residential building, recycling the most recyclable pounds per person in its challenge week in comparison with all other residential buildings during their weeks.
During the week of Jan. 28, 2008, Kates FCS Center recycled 1,372 pounds of material, including 930 pounds of paper.
The Student Apartments recycled 142 pounds of materials during the week of March 31, 2008.
Recycling challenges will soon begin for the current academic year.
