Student Life FAQ's
Are events free for students?
Typically, most events offered by CAB and the Department of Student Life are paid for through a students' activity fee. Occasionally, we ask students to pay a reduced ticket price for larger, more expensive events such as major concerts.
How is the activity fee allocated?
Every full-time undergraduate student pays $220 per year toward the activity fee. This money from the activity fee is allocated to fully chartered Ashland University organizations, residence hall programming and other university traditions such as the annual Homecoming festivities, etc.
The allocation process includes an application for funding which is reviewed and voted on by the Activities Budget/Chartering Committee (ABCC) of Student Senate. This committee is comprised of students, faculty and staff who meet weekly during the spring semester to allocate funds for the following academic year. The most common misconception about this activity fee is that all of the money goes to the Department of Student Life or the Campus Activities Board. Every year, the ABC Committee allocates these activity fee funds to over 65 different campus organizations. These organizations include Greek Affairs, WRDL/TV-2, Theatre Musical, Minority Student Services, Religious Life, Collegian, Center for Community Service, International Club, Collegiate Middle Levels Association, Philosophy Club, Sports Club Council, Women's Chorus, Orientation, Student Senate and more. Your student activity fee allows different organizations on campus to plan and host events specifically for you...so, why not take full advantage of your fee and check out something new!
How does my organization get funding?
The Activities and Budget Chartering Committee (ABCC) is an organization through Student Senate that approves student organization charters and allocates funds to those organizations. Fully chartered organizations may request funds in the spring semester for the following academic year. Each request is viewed on an individual basis.
Where is the Department of Student Life located?
