Information on reporting crimes and emergencies
How and Where...
Members of the campus community are encouraged to immediately report any emergency, criminal or suspicious activity to Safety Services. For on-campus calls, dial 911, or simply pick up the receiver on a designated emergency phone. Marked emergency phones are located in several buildings throughout campus. Outdoor emergency phones, distinguishable by the blue light above the phone, are available in certain locations on campus. Located at the main entrance to the residence halls are phones that can also be used in the event of an emergency or should assistance be required. On-campus 911 calls are routed through the safety services department. Your call to report a crime or suspicious activity may help prevent a crime or prevent further crimes from being committed, apprehend the perpetrator, provide Safety Services with better information for statistical reporting and hold others accountable for their actions.
While the Safety Services department strongly encourages you to hold others accountable for their actions by prosecution through the University's judicial and/or local legal system, we understand that some people may not wish to prosecute or become involved. Reporting a crime or incident is a separate step than prosecution.
Response to Emergency or Service Calls...
The Safety Services Dispatcher will dispatch an Ashland University Officer, or Intern, to the location of the emergency and, depending on the nature of the emergency, also directly connect the caller to the Ashland County 911 operator. Depending on the nature of the emergency, other campus departments may also be dispatched (i.e. Counseling Services, Health Center, Physical Plant staff, etc.). Dispatchers are available 24 hours a day to answer your call.
