FCS Dinsmore Scholarship Recipient

2009-10
Mr. & Mrs. J.A. Dinsmore Endowed Scholarship - Agnes Dinsmore, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.A. Dinsmore, with recipient, Shannon Heffernan.

A student must be an FCS major and must complete the application form to be eligible for scholarships.

Applications are due the last business day in February.
Special consideration will be given to those recipients who have attended 2 FCS Club or KON meetings or activities.
For all scholarships not listed on application, visit financial aid office to apply.
If recipient doesn't return for the following Fall term, or changes his/her major, the scholarships/awards will be forfeited.

The Dr. Jane Bogniard Scholarship
This scholarship has been established in honor of Dr. Jane Bogniard, Chairman and Professor Emeritus of the Ashland University Family & Consumer Sciences Department, by family, friends, and alumni. The available income from the endowed scholarship is to be awarded annually to a sophomore or junior Family & Consumer Sciences major. However, in any academic year in which no student with a Family & Consumer Sciences major qualifies, the scholarship may be granted to another undergraduate student enrolled full-time at Ashland University. The recipient of the Bogniard Scholarship will be selected on the basis of professional potential, scholarship and financial need, but need will not be the determining factor. (This award may be divided between two recipients).

Eloise Ridgeway Noonan Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1991 to honor Eloise R. Noonan, professor of clothing at Ashland University from 1966-1977. The scholarship is awarded to a Family & Consumer Sciences student, preference given to a student majoring in a clothing related area or Family and Consumer Science Education and is based on scholarship, professional promise and need.

Family & Consumer Sciences Merit Award
1. Either one award or two awards will be given to qualified freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. This award may be renewed. Criteria is as follows: Scholarship - minimum GPA of 3.0. 2. Professional attitude and interest, i.e. membership in AAFCS, involvement at local level, and participation in department activities. 3. In case of a close decision, potential merit winners will be interviewed.

The Forest and Ardelle Wimmer Stump Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in their memory by family and friends. The interest from the endowed scholarship is to be awarded annually to a Family & Consumer Sciences major at the close of the freshman year. Selection is made on the basis of professional potential and financial need.

Kappa Omicron Nu Award
This award is from the Family and Consumer Sciences Honor Society, given to a Family and Consumer Sciences major at Ashland University who is a KON member. Financial need is not a criterion.

Kappa Omicron Nu "Special Person" Award
This award is from the Family & Consumer Sciences Honor Society, given to a Family & Consumer Sciences major at Ashland University who is a KON member. The recipient of this award will be one who has demonstrated involvement in KON or in the Family & Consumer Sciences Department. Financial need is not a criterion.

The Mr. & Mrs. J.A. Dinsmore Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship award has been established in their honor by their daughters, Alice Berie Whitted and Agnes Dinsmore. Lifelong friends and alumni of Ashland University, the family wishes to perpetuate that interest by continuing aid to deserving students. The available income from this endowed fund will be awarded annually to undergraduate student(s) in Family & Consumer Sciences showing professional and academic promise as well as financial need.

The Margery & Dean McBurney Endowed Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship award was established in 1993 in recognition of their forty years of service to Ashland University. Mrs. McBurney was professor in the Family & Consumer Sciences Department 1964-1993, while Mr. McBurney served as Academic Counselor and Director of Special Programs and Financial Aid from 1967-1979. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) demonstrating leadership qualities on campus and/or in the Family and Consumer Sciences program. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good social and academic standing (minimum 2.5 cum. G.P.A.). Financial need is not a qualification for this award. Candidates must be recommended by a committee composed of representatives from FCS and Student Relations Departments.

The Marlen Sweeney Kutscher Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship award was established in 1984 by the family and friends of Marlen and Ashland University. The endowed scholarship is awarded annually to a Family & Consumer Sciences major demonstrating outstanding scholastic achievement and good campus citizenship. The scholarship is available to sophomores and is renewable for a maximum of two academic years.

The Mary Louise Morr Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship award has been established by Dr. and Mrs. Ted Irmiter, Margaret A. Cook, William and Regina Cook and friends in recognition of the lifetime interest of Mary Louise Morr in the education of young people. The available income from funds is awarded annually to a full-time student with junior standing majoring in the foods and nutrition program of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Ashland University. The candidate must be outstanding academically and display leadership qualities acceptable to a committee of the department and approved by the Director of Financial Aid of the University.
In the event no student in Foods & Nutrition may qualify for the award, the department committee and the Director of Financial Aid will make the award only to a student who most closely meets the above qualifications and is enrolled in any other major in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences. If the award is not made in a given year additional awards may be given the following year. Should the available income be sufficiently large, the fund may be divided and awarded to several students.

Olga Stump Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship award was established by the family and friends in memory of Olga Stump, a long-time friend of the university and the students. The interest from the endowed scholarship is to be awarded annually to a Family & Consumer Sciences major at the close of the junior year. Selection is made on the basis of professional potential and financial need.

Penn Award
This award has been established in memory of Mary Ann Penn, Ashland University Home Economics major, by her fellow students, family and friends. Selection is made irregardless of class rank and is based on professional potential, campus and professional involvement and loyalty.
