During the middle of my freshman year I transferred from Muskingum University to Ashland University . I was indecisive as to what subject I should major in but knew that I wanted a career that would allow me to help people with their problems. My first exposure to the Religion Department at Ashland University was through a short meeting with Dr. David Aune. My roommate introduced me to Dr. Aune to seek advice for my future. Our meeting had such a positive impact on me that I decided to pick up a minor in Religion.
It did not take long for me to realize that I was much more interested in my Religion classes than any of the other classes I was taking. I decided to take a second major and upgraded to a Religion major.
The Religion classes were, by far, the most helpful classes I took during my undergraduate years. They were much more intellectually stimulating and interesting than my other classes and were a weekly test of my reading, research, writing and analytical skills. The strengthening of these skills helped me to be successful in law school. My upper level Religion classes were academically challenging and required much reading and reflection. If I had not been challenged in this way, I would not have been appropriately prepared for law school. I can easily say that it was the professors of the Ashland University Religion Department who prepared me to travel the path of my professional career.
