Audition Dates for 2010.2011
- Saturday, October 23, 2010
- Saturday, February 19, 2011
- Center for the Arts, 1 p.m.
Application
The Ashland University Department of Theatre offers talent-based scholarships that require an audition and/or interview. All department majors and minors are eligible, but a limited number of awards are available. Most scholarship decisions are made by March 1 for the following year. After March 1 contact Professor Ric Goodwin (rgoodwin@ashland.edu) to check if scholarships are still available.
Audition times outside of the scheduled dates are possible, subject to faculty availability. Audition in front of the full faculty is preferable. Please contact Professor Goodwin for more information or to set up an alternate audition time.
Auditions
The day of your audition will include the following:
- Opportunity to meet with and talk with current Theatre students
- Tour of the facilities, which includes the Hugo Young and Studio Theatres as well as the scene and costume shops
- Fifteen-minute audition/interview with Theatre faculty and staff
- Dinner in the John C. Myers Convocation Center, Lower Level
- Complimentary tickets to the current production for that evening
Please come prepared for your audition/interview with a letter of recommendation and a resume detailing your theatre experiences.
Acting auditions:
Actors should prepare a 2-4 minute audition, which should include two contrasting monologues or a song and a monologue. You are encouraged to showcase your individual talents and may include a musical selection. Be prepared to perform other songs and monologues. An accompanist will be provided.
Technical interview (scenery, lighting, costumes, stage management):
Interviews will be scheduled. Please bring slides, pictures or other samples of your work, if available. Related visual materials may include artwork or a portfolio.
Musical Theatre auditions:
Students interested in Musical Theatre are required to audition and be accepted as a music minor by the Department of Music. We recommend scheduling this on the same day as your Theatre Scholarship Audition. For more information please go to the Department of Music's audition page or contact Cathy Rowland in the Music office at 419.289.5100 or crowlan1@ashland.edu.
Interview
The interview is important to help the Theatre faculty and staffs select students who will complement each other with regards to talent and intellect. We are interested in students who are motivated and serious about in-depth learning of their craft with the ability to perform in a variety of situations and environments.
